Alysha Herrmann is a proud parent, writer, theatre maker and cultural organizer working across disciplines in the arts, community development, youth work, social justice and social enterprise.
As a creative practitioner, Alysha makes performances, installations, experiences, presentations, poetry, digital exchanges and small moments of connection in public places. Her work is described as simple yet sophisticated, intimate yet distant, personal yet remote, familiar yet unusual.
Recent work includes Part of Things, a creative gathering space and ideas hub for Riverland young professionals, Another Elusive Maybe, a performance work presented in actual lounge rooms during Adelaide Fringe exploring loneliness and motherhood, Manifold Portrait, a long term artistic commitment to the residents of Manifold Crescent in Berri (beginning in 2015 and continuing into the foreseeable future) and Sing Me Your Sorrow, an interactive installation work exploring sorrow and resilience (work in progress presented at 2013 Crack Festival).
Alysha has won numerous awards for her work using the arts to interrogate and explore community concerns and aspirations including the 2017 Arts South Australia Geoff Crowhurst Memorial Ruby Award, the 2015 Australia Council Kirk Robson Award, 2014 Channel 9 Young Achiever Arts Award and was named by SA Life as one of SA’s fastest rising stars under 30 in 2014. Alysha graduated from the Australian Rural Leadership Program in 2018 with a scholarship from the Australia Council for the Arts.
